What is Teeth Whitening?

Whether you’re a smoker or drink a lot of tea and coffee, your teeth will begin to stain and look dull. If you’re currently unhappy with the way that your teeth look, in-office whitening is a quick and highly effective way to remove years of staining and discoloration. Whitening is done within an hour in our office and is comfortably convenient. The procedure delivers brighter and more brilliant results than what you’d achieve with at-home whitening kits.

Why might Teeth Whitening be needed?

There are many reasons why your teeth may look yellowed and dull. The foods and drinks that you consume can affect the color of your teeth, since coffee, tea and soda are incredibly staining to the enamel. Smokers and those who chew tobacco will have yellower teeth than the average person. Unfortunately, as you age, it’s not uncommon for teeth to begin to look dull and take on a bit of a stained appearance. You may want professional whitening because you are tired of feeling bad about your teeth or you’re planning a special occasion like a class reunion or wedding.

Who is a good candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Whitening is normally only effective on natural teeth. It won’t have much of an impact on restorations you may currently have, like crowns, veneers and fillings. Ideally, you should have been to visit a dentist at least once in the past year. Whitening is not a replacement for good oral health and hygiene, so it’s crucial that you still keep up with bi-annual dental exams and cleanings.

What happens during the Teeth Whitening process?

You will be seated comfortably in our office and have a special whitening gel applied to the teeth. After about a half hour, the old gel is removed and a new gel is applied to the teeth. The in-office treatment is done within an hour and you can experience a smile that’s three to eight shades whiter than when you came in. To maintain your results, it’s important to avoid staining foods for at least the first few days of whitening.
