Dental braces are placed on teeth to correct crooked, uneven bite. Your family dentist or orthodontist does an initial consult appointment where impressions of your teeth are made and x-rays taken so your dentist can study the growth of your jaw. The brackets or braces are placed on the teeth and you are on your way to achieving the smile of your dreams.

It is very essential to keep up with your appointments so that the results can be achieved in a timely fashion. Since it is not possible to accomplish major tooth movements with Invisalign, traditional metal braces are the treatment of choice. Traditional metal braces give more control to your general dentist or orthodontist to achieve ideal tooth movements.

The biggest challenge with traditional metal braces is aesthetics and keeping them clean. If you do not qualify for Invisalign and aesthetics are your main concern porcelain brackets are available. The porcelain braces use white wires which have more visually appealing. It is very important to keep the traditional dental braces clean. At Carrollton Smiles we recommend using a Waterpik and electric toothbrush.

Similar to Invisalign which requires a series of clear custom aligners, traditional metal braces require a series of wires which are changed at an interval chosen by your family dentist or orthodontist based on your needs. There may be a little discomfort initially as soon as the traditional dental braces are placed but most kids and adults tolerate the procedure well.

Dr. Sirisha Bhandaru has completed orthodontic training for general dentists with the American Orthodontic Society and is a Certified Invisalign Provider. At Carrollton Smiles we offer both traditional metal braces and Invisalign treatments.

Your family dentist or orthodontist can recommend the treatment that is right for you.
